February 18, 2013

GREAT FALLS -- University of Great Falls wrestling coach Caleb Schaeffer was named Regional Coach of the Year Saturday at the conclusion of the NAIA West Qualifying Group Tournament here.

The Argos scored 141.5 points to dethrone Southern Oregon, which had won four straight Regional tourneys. Southern Oregon finished with 133 points.

Montana State Northern's Cameron Neiss was honored as the wrestler of the tournament after conquering the 133-pound division. In the title tilt, the sixth-ranked Neiss toppled Menlo's second-ranked Angel Garcia 4-2 in overtime. In the semifinals, Neiss won by decision over top-ranked Prescott Garner of Southern Oregon 10-8.

The official list of national championships participants will be announced on Feb. 21.

The 56th Annual NAIA National Championships will be held at the Jacobson Exhibition Center in Des Moines, Iowa, March 1-2.
