Polson, Whitefish roll; Eureka picks up first win of season

POLSON — Andrew Weltz passed for 175 yards and two touchdowns as fourth-ranked Polson blanked Columbia Falls 35-0 in the Northwestern A Conference football opener for both teams.
Polson (4-0 overall) led 21-0 at the half.
“A great overall effort,” Polson coach Scott Wilson said.
“I was real pleased with how we played.
“Offensively, we were more consistent this week than the last couple,” he added.
Colton Lenz led the Polson ground game with 162 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown.
Polson totaled 277 yards rushing.
Weltz completed 7 of 13 passes. He threw one interception.
His TD strikes were 18 yards to Dylan McCrumb and 31 yards to Jared Gallatin.
Will Davey and Beau Mills both had 5-yard touchdown runs.
Columbia Falls slips to 2-2 overall.

WHITEFISH— Luke May passed for 231 yards and fourth touchdowns and Shane Marcial scored three times in Whitefish’s Northwestern A victory over Libby.
May was 14 of 19 passing.
Shane Marcial had 17 carries for 146 yards. He returned a fumble 45 yards for a score, hauled in a 19-yard TD pass from May and ran 40 yards for another.
Whitefish (3-2) had 440 yards in total offense in the league opener for both teams.
Jared Winslow had three TD passes for Libby (3-2).

Laurel runs past Miles City
MILES CITY -- Bryce Herman and Kameron Fisher accounted for five touchdowns as Laurel ran past Miles City, 34-14, Friday night in Eastern A football.
Herman had touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards and caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Brett Thompson. Herman finished with 106 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Fisher ran for 127 yards on 20 carries, including touchdown runs of 13 and six yards. He also ran for PAT and kicked two others.
Miles City's Devin Begger caught 10 passes for 140 yards, including a 31-yard scoring pass in the first quarter.

Copperheads stun Maroons

Anaconda scored 28 consecutive points in the fourth quarter Friday night to beat Butte Central 28-27 in a game for the ages at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.
Eric Boyd hit Cory Stanberry for a 34-yard touchdown with 32.6 seconds left then threw for the 2-point conversion to cap the comeback that stunned the homecoming crowd.
The comeback really started with 3 minutes, 39 seconds left in the game when Boyd scored on a long TD run. A 2-point conversion cut the lead to 27-14.
The Copperheads got the onside kick and one play later Boyd hit Kelly Krumm for a touchdown. Northey Tretheway blocked the PAT, but Anaconda cut the lead to 27-20 with 3:27 left.
Anaconda forced a punt to get the ball back at the BC 49-yard line with 45 seconds left. One play after picking up 15 yards on a pass interference, the Copperheads scored what turned out to be the game-winner.
