BUTTE - Kayla Paulsen and the Stevensville girls' basketball team weren't going to let top-ranked Butte Central ruin their weekend.
Paulsen came up big from 3-point range in leading No. 2 Stevensville to a 66-62 Southwestern A victory over the Maroons.
Paulsen converted 6-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc and went 4 for 5 from the free-throw line to scored 26 points.
Alycia Sims tossed in 17 for the Yellowjackets, who improved to 4-1 in league, 8-2 overall and made a case for themselves being Class A's new No. 1 when next week's poll is released.
Stevensville got off to a hot start - the Yellowjackets led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter - before the Maroons (5-1, 9-3) clawed their way back into it.
Kacie McKeon led Butte Central with 22 points with a 9-of-15 shooting effort.

Bearmedicine scored nine of her 15 points in the second quarter as the Spartans, ranked second in Class AA, rolled to a 27-point halftime advantage.
DJ Reinhardt had 12 points for Sentinel (9-1), Darby Anderson tallied 11 off the bench and Kennedy Fulbright added 10.

Moodry hit the game-tying 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds remaining to send Anaconda to overtime against District 6-B Loyola, and went on to score four of the five Copperhead points in the extra frame.
Kari Tirrell led the Breakers with 17 points. Maddie Keast added 10 for Loyola (8-3), ranked eighth in Class B.
