Prep boys' basketball roundup: Stevi wins overtime thriller

CORVALLIS - In a clash of Southwestern A powers played in front of a packed house Thursday, the Stevensville boys' basketball team edged Corvallis, 59-57, on a buzzer-beater by Austin Kelling in overtime.

The fact that the Blue Devils forced overtime was an accomplishment in itself. They trailed by 11 after three quarters and rallied behind nine fourth-quarter points by Colby Henderson.

Henderson fouled out late in the fourth and it didn't help matters for Corvallis (0-1, 3-2), which lost despite 36 points by Riley Bradshaw.

Late in overtime, Tyler Gavlak misfired on a shot for Stevensville (2-0, 6-0) but teammate Jesse Simms was there to tip the ball to Kelling. He put in a short jumper at the buzzer.

"It was a good game and we actually had to turn some fans away because it was sold out," Corvallis coach Dave Bradshaw noted.

"I thought both teams played well on the defensive end. I like the poise our kids showed after they got down."

Simms led a balanced scoring attack for the Yellowjackets with 13 points. Jared Schultz and Josh Schultz each added 11 and Kelling and Zach Gavlak each scored nine.
