2012 Central SASI Dates Set

April 30, 2012
By Sports Information Director of Central SASI

The 2012 Central SASI Leadership Camp is set for June 17-21st at UNC-P in Pembroke, NC.  This is an overnight camp and if selected you are one of the most respected student-athletes at your school.  You show good character, sportsmanship, and especially leadership qualities.  You may download the registration forms here.

If you haven't been asked, find your administrator and ask them if they will get an adult to join you and up to 5 of your student-athletes to participate in the camp.  The cost is free to the student-athlete right now.  The regular cost is $125 per camper but the school or school system pays that for each student-athlete.  In some cases the booster club covers the cost for participation.  If your school has never participated in SASI, please have them contact Ms. Teresa Coleman at the email address at the bottom of this article so that she may be able to work something out for you.  If you are a PBIS school, the PBIS team may help defer the cost as well.  There are specials for first time participants and it will make a difference!

Student Athlete Summer Institute is sponsored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's Student Services unit.  SASI is a prevention program that targets teams of student athletes enrolled in grades 10, 11, and 12 in North Carolina’s public high schools.  The curriculum includes activities centered onleadership development, effective teamwork, and lifelong skills for healthy living.  Athletes are selected by their coaches and teachers and participate in a summer residential program followed by a variety of leadership activities held during the school year.  Students selected should have leadership potential and an average or above academic record.  A coach sponsor assumes responsibility for the SASI team.

GOALS

SASI participants will learn about the following:

  • Detrimental effects of alcohol and other drugs
  • Appropriate peer interactions in a variety of settings
  • Peer empowerment
    • Methods of empowerment with anticipated outcomes
  • Positive role model influence

  • Effective leadership skills
