Interview with Luke Davis from Guthrie by Michael Mayberry

November 28, 2011
By VYPE Oklahoma of VYPE MAGAZINE - Oklahoma

After coming up short in the semi-finals twice in the past couple years, your team has finally made it to the state championship.

MM: Was their anything you guys did different this week compared to previously?

Luke Davis: We honestly did nothing different than the two previous years.  I think we just had a great scheme for McAlester's offense and we executed well on offense to give us the victory.

MM: What are your personal goals for you and your team as you strive to bring your school it's third gold ball?
LD: Well the only two times Guthrie has made it to the finals we have won it, so we will try to keep that streak going.

MM: What is your typical game day routine? Do you have any pregame rituals?
LD: My pregame routine consist of prayer, rock music, and LOTS of Pedialyte to prevent cramps.

MM: A three-year starter, what kind of a rush do you get when you are playing a game?
LD: I always get butterflies no matter who we are playing.  It's just the nervousness coming out showing how important it is to me.

MM: And last, what do you feel will be the biggest challenge with Lawton MacArthur next week?
LD: I haven't seen much film on them, but I know we definitely have to stop their run game.  They have athletes all across the field and we have to do our absolute best to contain them.
