Derby, Northwest meet Friday night in 6A

   Derby and Wichita Northwest, who have played three common opponents this season, match up in the opening round of the Class 6A football playoffs Friday night at Northwest High.
   Both teams have defeated Wichita Southeast and Wichita East this fall and both have lost to No. 1-ranked Wichita Heights.
   Derby (6-3) led Heights by 14 points in the third quarter last week, but lost a 49-35 decision to the Falcons on their home field.  Northwest (7-2) lost to Heights, 41-21, earlier in the season.
   The Derby-Northwest game is one of eight in Class 6A tonight.  Eight more first-round games will be in 5A.
   Heights (9-0) is at home against Topeka's Washburn Rural (6-3).  The Falcons have three players - Marquel Moore, Matt Reed and Kenneth Iheme - who could go over 1,000 rushing for the season.
   Wichita South (4-5) will play at Garden City (6-2) tonight in another 6A first-round game.
   There could be a lot of points scored in Class 5A first-round games tonight as Salina South (4-5) plays at Bishop Carroll (8-1), Andover Central (6-3) is at Emporia (6-3), McPherson (7-2) plays Kapaun Mt. Carmel (7-2) at Cessna Stadium and Hutchinson (7-2) travels to Hays (8-1).
