The Augusta Orioles won the Class 5-1A state bowling championship Thursday morning at Northrock Lanes by 56 pins over second-place Bishop Carroll.

Three of the Orioles - Katy Nordman (669), Mason Kuether (629) and Bethany Watson (605) - went over the 600 mark for a series as they brought home the state title.

Buhler senior Kirsten Allen won the individual state title with a 706 series. Allan, who will bowl next year at Tabor, started a 269 first game, but trailed the leader by 23 pins entering the final game. She actually rolled her lowest score, 211, but emerged on top when the two leaders shot 170 or worse in the final game.

The Great Bend boys won a pair of titles in the afternoon.  The Panthers rolled a score of 2,695 to defeat runner-up Goddard-Eisenhower (2,582) and Bishop Carroll (2,575).

Great Bend also had the individual winner in Daniel Herrman, who rolled a 759 series.
