November 9, 2012
VYPE MAGAZINE - Central Kansas

Wichita Heights football coach Rick Wheeler announced his resignation Friday, bringing an end to a 14-year career at the school.

Wheeler will remain at Heights as athletic director.

Wheeler posted a record of 110-37 at Heights.  The Falcons won the Class 6A championship in 2010, going 13-0 and defeating Olathe North 48-14 in the title game. The Falcons finished second in 2009 and 2011.

Before Wheeler became coach in 1999, the Falcons had two winning seasons in the school’s 38-year history and a .335 winning percentage against City League opponents.

As Heights’ athletic director, Wheeler is now in position to select his successor.
