State tournament tickets punched in 6A (girls) and 5A (boys)

The Wichita City League punched four tickets to the state tournament on Friday and more are expected to come on Saturday.

Sixteen sub-state championships games were played as eight 6A girls' teams and eight 5A boys' teams qualified for state tournaments.

In the 6A girls' competition, five teams with two losses or less are headed to Wichita's Koch Arena for the state tournament - Wichita Heights (22-0), Olathe Northwest (21-1), Manhattan (20-2), Olathe South (20-2) and Maize (20-2).

Also qualifying for the 6A girls' state tournament were Wichita South (14-8), Shawnee Mission South (13-9) and Shawnee Mission Northwest (16-6).

In the Class 5A boys' sub-states, Bishop Carroll knocked off No. 1-ranked and unbeaten andover Central, 49-48, at the Kapaun sub-state. Carroll moves on to the state tournament in Topeka with an 11-11 record. Kapaun Mt. Carmel (13-9) also advanced with a 54-48 victory over Andover.

Joining the two City League schools will be Goddard Eisenhower (18-4), Lansing (19-3), Highland Park (16-6), Kansas City Harmon (13-9), St. Thomas Aquinas (13-9) and Liberal (10-12).

Sub-state champions for 6A boys, 5A girls and both boys and girls in 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A-I and 1A-II will be held Saturday.
