Home » Wrestling News6A, 5A, 4A wrestling starts Friday morningFebruary 24, 2012 VYPE MAGAZINE - Central KansasWhile the Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament wraps up Friday in Hays, the other three larger classifications - 4A, 5A and 6A - will begin their state tournaments in Salina and Park City. The Class 4A state tournament begins at 10 a.m. at the Salina Bicentennial Center with No. 1-ranked Andale as the favorite to win the team title. The Class 5A and 6A tournaments also start at 10 a.m. at Hartman Arena in Park City. In the 6A tournament, Manhattan leads the way with 13 state qualifiers, while Derby has 12. Junction City will send 11 qualifiers to the tournament, while Hutchinson, Lawrence, Wichita Northwest and defending champion Wichita Heights has 10 each. Matt Reed of Heights (26-0) and Will Geary of Topeka High (27-0) are the two unbeatens in the 6A tourney. In Class 5A, Arkansas City and Newton lead the way with 13 qualifiers each, while Lansing, Shawnee Heights and Mill Valley have 12 each, St. Thomas Aquinas, Emporia and Goddard 11 each. Andover Central's Zac Gentzler (36-0) is one of four unbeaten wrestlers, along with Bo Pursel of Lansing (40-0), Brandon Charbonneau of Emporia (40-0) and Luke Bean of Kapaun Mr. Carmel (43-0).
