Tuesday night, the Blue Aces showed they are a team to be reckoned with at the state level. East High ended the nation's longest active winning streak in boys' basketball with a 57-51 victory over Wichita Heights at the East gymnasium. The victory by East ended Heights' state-record 62-game winning streak and dropped to Falcons to 14-1 in the City League and 18-1 overall. East improved to 11-5 and 14-6. East jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter and still led by 11 points (33-22) at halftime before narrowing the margin to 43-37 heading the fourth quarter. Heights cut the lead to one point with 30 seconds remaining. Senior guard Jalen Love scored 27 points for the winners, while Perry Ellis totaled 30 points for Heights, which ends the regular season Thursday night at home against Wichita North. Both teams will be at the Class 6A sub-state in Topeka and could meet again next week.
