Home » Basketball NewsBrownsburg's Mavunga Earns Indiana Gatorade Player of the YearMarch 14, 2013 VYPE MAGAZINE - Central IndianaFor the second consecutive year, Stephanie Mavunga of Brownsburg has been named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year for basketball. A power forward for the Bulldogs, Mavunga averaged 23 points, 13.4 rebounds and 4 blocks per game and helped lead her team to the regional semi-final and a 20-4 record. At 6-foot-4, Mavunga has been selected to compete in the McDonald’s All American game in Chicago on April 4th. Other accolades throughout her high school career include: WBCA All-American honoree, two-time Indiana Basketball Coaches Association All-State selection and 2012 Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year. In 2011, Mavunga was a member of the USA Under-16 National team Mavunga ends her high school career at Brownsburg with 1,739 points and 984 rebounds. She also attains a 3.40 GPA. Next year, Mavunga will attend the University of North Carolina on basketball scholarship. Each state selects a Gatorade Player of the Year and from each state, one national winner will be selected.
