Home » Wrestling News2012-13 Undefeated H.S. Wrestlers - State Finals PreviewFebruary 11, 2013 By Rich Torres of VYPE MAGAZINE - Central IndianaUndefeated H.S. Wrestlers – 2012-13 State Tournament Tracker The list of 2012-13 unbeatens was sliced in half as semi-state championships were decided at four different sites this past weekend. Prior to semi-state, there were 42 undefeated wrestlers. The elite fraternity now stands at 21 heading into the 75th Annual IHSAA Individual Wrestling State Finals. Of the remaining 21, three wrestlers are seeking a second consecutive state title. Five weight classes consist of the state’s No. 1 and No. 2 ranked wrestlers – both of which are unbeaten. In 11 of the 14 weight classes up for grabs this weekend at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the state’s No. 1 ranked wrestler remains the man to beat. For the first time in six years, the 160-pound weight class will not have an undefeated state champion. The last 160-pounder to win the state title with one loss was Floyd Central’s Cooper Samuels (35-1) in 2006-07. Mitch Sliga of Fishers, the state’s top wrestler at 195 pounds, is looking to finish the year perfect after winning the 189-pound title with a flawless 49-0 record in 2011-12. Since placing third at 189 as a sophomore, Sliga, a senior, has not succumbed to defeat. He has a streak of 95 straight wins. Top-ranked Isaiah Bradley of Muncie Southside is eyeing a repeat title at 152 pounds. The senior finished a perfect 44-0 in 2011-12 and has won 79 consecutive matches. As a sophomore, he placed fifth at 135 pounds. Hanover Central’s Stevan Micic has not lost in 92 consecutive matches. Finishing third as a freshman at 103 pounds in 2010-11, the junior captured the 106-pound title a year ago with a perfect 47-0 record. He is aiming for a second straight title – this time at 113 pounds. Former state champion, Neal Molloy of Danville is no stranger to perfect seasons. As a sophomore, Molloy won the 130-pound title with a spotless 50-0 record. In 2011-12, he amassed a 43-0 record before falling to Alexandria’s Luke Blanton in the 132-pound state quarterfinals. This year, he is ranked No. 1 at 145 pounds and carries a 39-0 record.
