Home » Quiz Bowl NewsQuiz Bowl Treks to Kahoka to Take on Clark CountyMarch 18, 2011 By Ryan Kennedy of Centralia High SchoolThe Quiz Bowl Panthers played their third match in a four-day span on Thursday, taking on the Clark County Indians in Kahoka. The JV started off slow, letting undefeated Clark County jump out to a 60-20 lead in the first quarter. The Panthers battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the Indians 50-0 to take 70-60 lead into the half. The third quarter belonged to Clark County, as they outscored Centralia 60-30 to reclaim the lead going into the fourth. An unanswered 70-point salvo from the Indians to start the fourth quarter all but put this one out of reach. The Panthers did end on a 60-20 run to end the game with a respectable 160-210 final. Donna and Quinton led our scoring with 30 apiece, and Taylor had 20, all in the fourth quarter. Clark County’s JV remains undefeated, while Centralia’s falls to 4-3 in conference play. The varsity was up next, prepared to take on perhaps their toughest conference challenge yet in a rematch of the CCC tournament finals. This one started out close, as an early 20–point Centralia lead was wiped out by Clark County. A nice run from the Panthers, followed by 20 unanswered points from the Indians ended the first period at 80-50, Centralia. In the second quarter, Centralia pulled away. They started the quarter with a 90-10 run, sweeping one of Clark County’s bonuses along the way. In total, the Panthers outscored Clark County 160-30 to put the halftime score at 240-80. In the third quarter, Clark County managed to outscore the Panthers, 60-40, to cut the lead to 140. That and a solid fourth quarter from the Indians weren’t enough, however, as the Panthers walked out of Clark County High School with a 440-210 win. Aaron led the team with 160 points, while Michael and Chelsea each had 40 points. The 7-0 varsity Panthers travel to Mark Twain on Tuesday, March 22. A win would secure a third straight CCC title for the Quiz Bowl team, thanks to their head-to-head win against one-loss South Shelby.
