Home » Quiz Bowl NewsQuiz Bowl Hosts MaconMarch 15, 2011 By Ryan Kennedy of Centralia High SchoolOn Monday March 14th, the 4-0 Centralia Panthers squared off against the 3-1 Macon Tigers in a battle for CCC supremacy. Not only was this an unusual match for being on Monday, the varsity played first. The Panthers, who hadn’t played in over a week, started out hot. The first four questions went to Centralia, on their way to a 120 to 10 first quarter. It was more Centralia in the second quarter, as Aaron and Michael combined to answer eight of the ten toss-ups, making the score 330-30 at halftime. Centralia outscored Macon 90 to 10 in the third, behind Aaron’s seven toss-ups, and the fourth quarter showed some teamwork as Aaron, Chelsea, and Michael answered two toss-ups apiece. The final score was 580 to 140; Aaron had 200, Michael 80, and Chelsea 70. Varsity is in first place in the CCC at 5-0, a game and a half ahead of South Shelby, who is 4-1 (due to Centralia’s 430-230 win over the Cardinals in the first game of the season). With the bar set high, the JV was up next in their first main event action. Three starters scored first quarter points, ending the quarter up 40-20. A solid second quarter, including 20 points from donna, made the halftime score 90-50. The JV Panthers caught fire in the third, scoring 60 points between three players. In the fourth, Centralia broadened the 150-70 margin to win 230-100. Donna had 90 points, Taylor and Charlie each had 30, and Quinton had 20. They are now 4-1 in conference play and in third place, a half game behind Palmyra and a game behind Clark County. Quiz Bowl's busy week continues with a match on Tuesday at home against Brookfield, a match Thursday at Clark County, and the Marshall Tournament on Saturday.
