Brentwood stuns Centralia

November 22, 2009
By David Meyers of Centralia High School

CENTRALIA - Erle Bennett wasn\'t going to pin his top-ranked football team\'s stunning 28-27 loss to Brentwood yesterday afternoon on a missed extra point with 3:08 remaining in the game.

While the missed kick by sophomore Austin McCoy was the difference on the scoreboard in the tense Class 2 semifinal that was played in front of an overflow crowd at Miller Stadium, there were too many other things the veteran Centralia coach could point to as deciding factors in the upset.  He finally settled on one.  "Really what got us was the first half," Bennett said.

A lot of bad things happened to Centralia (13-1) in the first half, which put the Panthers in an unfamiliar situation. After outscoring the opposition 473-25 in the first two quarters this season, Centralia trailed 21-14 at halftime.
