Panthers Capture CCC Title

May 4, 2012
By David Meyers of Centralia High School

Zach Etzler threw a complete game shutout and Just Eikel had a 2 run single in the 4th inning to lead the Centralia baseball team to a 2-0 win over Louisiana on Thursday night.  The win, coupled with a South Shelby loss to Palmyra, assured the Panthers of a Clarence Cannon Conference title, the first for the baseball program.

Etzler allowed just 1 hit, and 1 walk while striking out 8 to boost the Centralia record to 6-1 in the CCC.

Eikel's single followed a double by Stuart Cox and an error on a Nathan VanBoening grounder.  Eikel finished the night 2/3.  The Panthers ended with 5 hits.

Centralia finishes the regular season with a road game to Blair Oaks on Friday night, a home game with Kirksville on Saturday and a road game at Hallsville on Monday night.

In the JV contest, Centralia pounded out 8 hits and 13 runs in 5 innings to win 13-7.  Logan Armontrout got the win for the Panthers on the mound, Caleb Liegey and Tyler Spurling both had 2 hits to lead the offense.
