By David Meyers of Centralia High School

The Centralia baseball team lost it's first game of the 2012 season on Monday night, dropping a 6-0 decision to South Callaway.

The Panthers fell behind early, when the Bulldogs scored 2 runs in the top of the first thanks to 2 Panther errors and a single.  The Bulldogs added 3 runs inthe 3rd inning and a single tally in the 4th for the final deficit.

Nathan VanBoening started on the mound for the Panthers, and took the loss allowing all 6 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits and 3 walks.  VanBoening struck out 3.  Justin Eikel threw the 5th and 6th innings and didn't allow a run on one hit and Chandler Blackwell finished on the mound in the 7th and retired the Bulldogs in order.

The Panthers best chance to score came in the 3rd inning when the #8 hitter Devan Duncan walked and the #9 hitter Brandon Freeman reached on an error.  The Bulldogs escaped without any damage however and the Panthers never seriously threatened again.  Rightfielder Gannon Peavler had the only 2 hits for the Panthers who travel to Jefferson City on Thursday night for their next regular season game.
