Home » Football NewsVYPE's Spring Football Notes -- Terry Back in the FieldMay 11, 2012 VYPE MAGAZINE - Central HoustonTerry Back on the Field Ahmard Vital  Last season was a pretty good one for the boys out in Rosenberg at Terry High School. Posting a 9-2 overall record, the Rangers are consistently finding themselves in the postseason picture for a number of years now.  And while doing well in the season is a priority for the Terry football staff, for the start of spring, it’s all about getting back in tune with the contact side of the game.  “We as a staff we are pleased with what we see. The big thing with spring is getting the guys acclimated with the routine,†Terry coach Tim Teykl said. “You are back to putting on helmets, shoulder pads and cleats and making sure you can do that two days in a row without an issue. And, you are getting your system in place. Seeing everyone gets excited because the last time we seen them in full pads was back in November.† Really, for Teykl, at least in the early stages of spring ball, that is what it is all about. Sure, you need to check out personnel, work in the play book and see who may step up and make the varsity squad, but there’s another element that is rarely talked about.  “This time of year, players are a little giddy, and coaches too, but you have to let them get that excitement out. Because we are not getting ready to play a game, but we are out here to see who can play,†Teykl said. “I’ve been a proponent of spring for years. And there’s a mixture of kids, with your veterans and kids who have never stepped out there with that level of kid. Those new kids have to get used to the speed of practice, the speed of the drills and of the workouts.† Well one thing is for certain, is that when Terry hits the field in 2012, the Rangers have the reputation of showing up and being prepared. And from the looks of things now, there’s no reason to think otherwise.
