As spring ball will get started in the Greater Houston area, here are a couple of the city’s top players who will be participating in spring practices at their respective schools. Some are committed, while others are still looking for the right place. Either way, checking in on any of these guys is a must for the hard core football fan.
Keith Ford, Cy Ranch RB This nationally-ranked back is known for his good balance and vision. Of course, we can’t leave out the fact that he is fast for his size (190 pounds). Ford is a special back according if you ask any of the coaches at Cy Ranch. He has decided to take his talents to a place that keeps a good running back or two at Oklahoma.
Derrick Griffin, B.F. Terry TE/WR A long versatile player, Griffin works in any offense. With his vertical leaping ability (remember he is a nationally-ranked hooper as well), he is money in the red zone. He made the call before the 2012 National Signing Day and wanted to play ball in College Station for Texas A&M.
Deoundrei Davis, Cy Woods LB After watching three clips of Davis’ junior highlights, you realize that this guy only knows full speed. He gets to many plays before happening. Perhaps that is why Texas wanted to get him in the fold as he has made his committed to the Longhorn coaches. Another player to watch at Woods is RB Trent Holmes, who could be the sleeper of the team.
Maurice Smith, Dulles CB Here is one of the nation’s top secondary players. Known for his physical play, Smith has been courted by all of the country’s top powerhouses. But even still, Smith wants to get better at his off-man coverage. He will soon narrow his college choices.
Reginald Chevis, Sharpstown LB It wasn’t that long ago that Chevis was a hungry player just looking to chance to play ball. Now, he has options. This kid is a grinder and has an aggression that helps fuel the Apollos, and soon enough a college program.
Torrodney Prevot, Alief Taylor DE Coming off the edge, not many do it like Prevot. And now, plenty of college coaches want to sign him on. Getting heavier will likely be a focus for Prevot. For the most part, he has all the offers he could ever want, but man is he exciting to watch.
Deon Hollins, Marshall DE A call was made to the UCLA coaches from Hollins and he told them that he wanted to be a Bruin. But he has wanted to still check out a couple programs. But on the field, you can see why more than 25 coaches want to sign him for 2013. Great pass rusher, who will play as an outside backer on the college level.
Caleb Benenoch, Seven Lakes OL Clearly the big man on campus, Benenoch is becoming a hot name throughout Houston. Michigan State got the earlier in month of March, but with new offers on the table, Benenoch wants to make sure his choice is right. Here is a big, strong lineman who is a punishing.
Adam Taylor, Katy RB After missing most of his junior season, Taylor is likely eager to get back in the Tiger rotation. Taylor has a tough running style about himself and he is one who keeps his head low to the ground and lets his game speak.
