Home » Basketball NewsVYPE's Girls Basketball Regional Predictions -- Could it be an All-Houston State FinalFebruary 22, 2012 By Matt Malatesta of VYPE MAGAZINE - Central HoustonGirls' Hoop Playoff Prediction for Regional Semi-Finals and Finals
It's getting down to the nitty gritty as the girls' basketball season comes to a head in the regional brackets.
In Region III, which will be played at the Campbell Center in Aldine, 2011 state qualifier Elsik faces the electric Clear Springs Chargers led by Brooke McCarty and gang. While Elsik has the experience, VYPE is going with Clear Springs as is their time to step to the next level.
Cy Falls faces North Shore on the other side of the bracket and nothing can stop Cy Falls this season. They are so deep and fresh-legged that the Eagles will topple the top-heavy North Shore Mustangs and McDonald's All-American Courtney Williams. Cy Falls can simply throw too many athletes at her.
So that leaves Cy Falls versus Clear Springs in the regional finals to go to state. Depth wins this game again as the senior-heavy Falls take down the young Chargers in an up and down contest.
In Region II, The Woodlands got over the hump against Pflugerville and face Sachse in the regional semis. Strickland, Evans, Bradley, Lang and gang have too much star power for Sachse and want to go out big as seniors. The 6-foot-4 Lang will return to lead the Highlanders next year.
Dekaney faces a tough Desoto squad, which as a tradition-rich program. Dekaney proved that they don't care about shocking the high school world as their football team won state coming out of nowhere. Dekaney matches up athletically but lacks a traditional big. They will have to out run and shoot Desoto and VYPE says they will.
Which leads to an all north Houston regional final to be played on the campus of Baylor. Hmmm. Tough call here. The Woodlands will have an easier matchup against Sachse if predictions hold true and they will virtually go back-to-back days to play Dekaney. They could be fresher than the Wildcasts who will have to grind to get past Desoto. The Woodlands in a close one to potentially set up an all Houston state finals.
In Class 4A, the Manvel Mavs are pounding the competition and will crush Beaumont Ozen. On the other side of the bracket, Barbers Hill faces Clear Falls. Barbers Hill is too strong and big for Falls and will win to force a Barbers Hill versus Manvel contest. Still no contest as Manvel cruises to the state tourney.
