Three More DI Commits from H-Town; Plus More Recruiting Scoop

January 23, 2012
By Matt Malatesta of VYPE MAGAZINE - Central Houston

Another trio of Houston footballers verbally committed over the weekend.

The Woodlands' Garrett Hope got what he was wishing for. After a tremendous senior season, the 6-foot-3 linebacker took an official visit to West Virginia this past weekend without an offer.

After the Mountaineer coaches sized him up, they offered Hope and he verbally committed.

"I feel great about my decision," Hope said. "West Virginia is going to be in the Big 12 soon and Coach (Dana) Holgerson is playing a huge role in making WVU a successful program. The coaching staff is awesome and I can't wait to be playing for their new defensive coordinator Joe DeForest. I so excited to get up here in June and do my thing."

Hope had taken a visit to New Mexico last weekend and was recently offered by Wake Forest.

Just down the road at Klein Collins, Tiger safety Ryan Santos verbally committed to New Mexico after visiting the campus over the weekend.

In southwest Houston, Elkins receiver Chance Allen committed to Oklahoma State after taking a few visits. The dual-sport athlete is a 6-foot-2 receiver with a big upsdie.

In other news, Cy Falls quarterback Troy Mitchell committed to Western Carolina and running back Tre' Clark committed to Harding University. Klein Collins receiver Richard Smothering committed to West Texas A&M. Tiger defensive end Richard Smith is also signing with West Texas A&M.
