CENTER GROVE, IN (December 11, 2013)—Center Grove High School has chosen Keith Hatfield as its new head coach for varsity baseball. Athletic Director Jon Zwitt made the announcement to staff and players Wednesday.
Hatfield served as head baseball coach for Roncalli High School for four years. He is a graduate of Roncalli and of the University of Indianapolis (UIndy) where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration and is pursuing a Master’s in teaching.
“I am excited and very proud to announce the selection of Keith Hatfield as the next Varsity Baseball Coach at Cen
ter Grove High School,” said Zwitt. “In just four years as the Head Coach at Roncalli High School, Keith has exhibited the proficiency for leading a team to success. His 2012 squad finished as State Runners Up and twice his teams won the Marion County Tournament. We look forward to watching Keith lead our future Trojan teams on and off the field with spirit, energy and a disciplined approach.”
Hatfield served as a pitching coach at UIndy for two years before moving to Roncalli. He also pitched for UIndy for four years while obtaining his undergraduate degree, setting a record of 66 career appearances. In high school, he was a pitcher and first baseman on Roncalli’s 2003 Marion County championship baseball team. Hatfield and his wife, Deanna, live on the south side. Deanna (Thomson) Hatfield is a 2004 Center Grove H.S. graduate.
Hatfield’s selection is pending approval by the Center Grove Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees at its January meeting. He replaces long-time coach Dave Gandolph, who announced last month his plans to retire at the end of the year.
