Center Baseball team captured 1st win of the season!

April 11, 2011
Center High School

The Center High School Baseball team captured their 1st win last Friday in 14-4 slugfest.

In the 2nd round of the South Kansas City Baseball Classic, Center faced an offensively potent Imagine Renaissance Academy (IRA) Warriors team, which only the day before, advanced on the bats of their hitters.

Head Coach Neal Weitzel said of the game, "The bats just came alive!"

"We played great offensively, and everyone contributed at the plate..." Coach Weitzel said.

After struggling to mount much of an offensive attack in their first outing against O'Hara, the Yellowjackets really poured it on, opening up with a five-run 1st Inning. The entire line-up provided the firepower as the Jackets continued to add runs as the game wore on.

Despite the offensive barrage, it was Senior pitcher Riccardo Carrillo that stole the show. He threw five, solid Innings including 9 strikeouts which earned him the game ball.

Coach Weitzel noted, "...the defense won the game for us. Riccardo did a great job in his first start of the season and he had some great help from the field as well."

The Baseball team faces the two-time defending champion Van Horn in a rescheduled match-up to be announced.
