WOW...What a Regional for the Runnin' Women!

Saturday, May 28 was 'Day 2' of the OHSAA, Division II, Lexington Regional Track and Field Championships! After a super start on Thursday, in which Lizz Carr (2nd in the HJ) and the 4 x 800 relay of Michaela Wenning, Andrea Bell, Ashley Coon, and Hannah Fleck (3rd) earned tickets to the State Championship Meet, seven Runnin' Women returned to Lexington to complete their mission of gettng to State. (top 4 finishers in each event). What a day for the Bulldog tracksters. By meet's end, Celina qualified to the ultimate championship meet in three more events, not to mention amassing enough 'team' points to place 5th of the 56 participating schools.
The day began with excellent performances from the Dogs' two long jumpers. Gina Strable jumped a career best 16' 7.25" to finish 7th. Katie Sutter soared 16' 3.5" to finish right behind in 8th. In the first running event of the day Lizz Carr (16.11) and Lexi Mills (16.21) placed 7th and 8th respectively in the 100-meter intermediate hurdles. After a short break for CHS, Lexi Mills competed in the 300-meter low hurdles. With a :01 second improvement on her personal best time, Lexi crossed the line in 3rd with the clock showing 45.33. She will go to State for the first time with the effort. In the next race on the docket, Hannah Fleck looked to defend her 800-meter run title from a year ago. She did just that, running her best time of the season, sprinting the final 100-meters to WIN going away in 2:16.44. Her victory secures a spot in Columbus. Andrea bell was Celina's final individual performer as she circles the track 8 times in the 3200-meter run. Andrea ran a 12:11.75 to place 11th. The final race of the day, the 4 x 400 relay provided an appropriate ending for the Celina Runnin' Women. Gina Strable, Lexi Mills, Michaela Wenning and Hannah Fleck teamed for a season best mark of 3:59.58 in taking the runner-up spot. The time was a :05 drop from the season's previous best time. Three of the four girls ran career best splits, with the 4th equallying her best. Hannah closed with a :57.2 run for her 400-meter leg.
The season continues for seven girls at the Ohio High School State Track and Field Championship Meet to be contested Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4 at the Ohio State University's Jesse Owen Complex. Action begins Friday at 9:00 AM when Lizz Carr competes in the high jump.
