SUPER DAY AT DISTRICT!
Thursday, Feb 17 the Diving Dogs got Celina H S off to a great start at the Bowling Green District Swimming and Diving Championship Meet. Saturday, Feb 19 the Waterdog Swimmers continued the excellence. Sixteen times Bulldog individuals took to the pool. Each and every time a career or season best performance was turned in by a CHS athlete. Six relays took part, with all producing season best efforts, including two 'School Records'. The Dogs earned automatic State Championship Meet bids in three events with hopes of getting at large bids in a number of other events.
On the Distaff side the Lady Waterdogs established a new 'School Record' in the 200-yard Medley Relay. Michaela Wenning (back), Kandace Eichenauer (breast), Ashley Coon (fly), and Brooke Mertz (free) shaved 0.17 off the previous mark set in 2008. The new standard is 1:55.37. The quartet placed 7th and is waiting to see if the time is good enough to earn a spot at State. The foursome of Brooke, Alex Parker, Ashley, and Paige Dorsten swam 1:41.02 for their 200-yard Free Relay. In doing so, they finished 3rd. The 3rd place result punched their ticket to Canton and the State Meet. (the top 3 in each event for Girls get automatic qualification). Ashley, Kandace, Brooke, and Alex finished 6th in the 400-yard Free Relay (3:48.60) and must wait to see if they gain an at-large birth to State. Individually, Brooke came within 0.18 of the school's 50-yard Free record. She swam a career best 24.81 to take 5th (a good chance she will advance to State). Alex (100 Free), Kandace (100 Free, 100 Breast), Michaela (100 Free, 100 Back), and Ashley (100 Fly) all swam excellent times. The Girls placed 8th in the final team scoring.
The Guys followed the Ladies lead as they also had superior performances. Both Eric Muhlenkamp and the 200-yard Medley Relay finished 3rd (top 4 automatically advance to State for the Boys), getting spots at next week's State Meet. Eric just missed the school's 100-yard breast record by 0.07 of a second as he touched in 1:00.79. Eric (breast) will be joined by Peyton Jones (back), Tyus Temple (fly), and Kyle Menchhofer (free) at State in the Medley Relay (1:42.75). The quartet was 0.31 off the record they set a week earlier. Matt Feltz, Eric, Peyton, and Kyle combined for a 'School Record' in the 200-yard Free Relay (which placed 5th). They swam 1:31.83, eclipsing the old mark of 1:32.15 set back in 2003. The same four guys took 5th in the 400-yard Free Relay (3:26.39). Both relays have a nice shot of advancing to State as at-large relays. Again, like the Ladies, Kyle (50 Free), Tyus (50 Free, 100 Fly), Cary Miller (100 Free, 100 Fly), Peyton (100 Back), Jared Ley (100 Breast), and Matt (100 Fly) all swam to their capacity. For their efforts the Guys paced 3rd in the team standings.
Official word of all State qualifiers comes Sunday afternoon on February 20. Check back for the final word!

COMPLETE DISTRICT RESULTS
COLLEN BYER - DISTRICT CHAMPION. Collen and Tye Spengler qualify to State.
Thursday afternoon, February 17, six Diving Dogs traveled to Bowling Green for participation in the BG Division II District. The goal...finish in the top 8, which would earn a spot in next week's State Championship Event. Twenty-four men and 24 women took the board for a shot at the ultimate meet. Diving Coach Dave Koesters' entrants represented Celina well. For the second time in school history (first was in 2009) two CHS Men finished high enough in the standings to earn a ticket to State. Sophomore Collen Byer amassed 376.05 points, which put him on the top step of the awards podium as DISTRICT CHAMPION. Junior Tye Spengler was good enough to capture his first State birth. He accumulated 293.10 points as he placed 8th, getting the final qualifying spot. Collin Stephens (241.10) and Charlie Folk (235.70) scored team points as they finished 15th and 16th respectively. For the Women, it was oh so close. Freshman Olivia Schlotterer tallied 295.90, but fell just short (by 2.30 points) of the 8th and final state spot. Olivia was 9th. Dethora Hasenjager came within 13 points of making it, earning 285.20 points , which got her 11th place status. Unfortunately, Julia Folk was injured in warm-ups and could not compete.
Collen and Tye will compete in Canton at the State Championship Meet on Wednesday, Feb 23 at 2:00 PM.
