Wednesday, May 28, five Celina Runnin' Bulldogs made the 3-hour drive to Amherst for participation in the OHSAA Division I Amherst Regional Track and Field Champiomship Meet. Athletes and relays placing in the top four of their respective evnets at the Regional meets earn spots in the State Champiomship Meet, June 6-7. Sam got the Bulldogs off to a great start as he qualified to 'State' by virtue of his fourth place result. Sam actually tied for 4th with a clearance of 13'0". To determine the State qualifier (4th place), he had to win a sudden death (victory) tie breaker. He and his opponent both missed at 13'6", dropped the bar to 13'3" where both cleared, back to 13'6" with both missing, back to 13'3". At the that height Sam cleared after his opponent failed, giving Sam the tie breaker WIN and spot in Columbus. Sam will vault, 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 7 at the Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Stadium.
Jack concluded his high school career, placing 13th in the long jump with a best effort of 20'5.5".
In running prelims Emily and Bekah toed the track in the 100m hurdles. Emily went first, trying to be an automatic qualifier to the finals by finishing 1st or 2nd. After that the top 4 times from 2heats would advance. Unfortunately for Em and the other girls one of the hurdle flights was placed on an incorrect marking, which created havoc on the track with girls hitting hurdles, crashing and falling. Em was one of the girls knocked to the track by another competitor and a flying hurdle. The heat will be rerun on Friday, May 30 at 4:30. Bekah heat went much better, with the hurdles correctly placed, Bekah automatically advanced to Friday's final with her 2nd place finish. Emily had to regroup for her 300H prelim. Running her race with a sore hip, due to the 100H mishap she placed 15th with a time of 48.75.
