WESTERN BUCKEYE LEAGUE T&F CHAMPIONSHIPS

Thursday, May 15 was Day 1 of the 2014 Western Buckeye League Track and Field Championships. Delayed a day by weather, the meet got under way with the finals of 5 field events and 1 running final. After one day of competition the Celina Runnin' Bulldogs stand at or near the top of the 'team' standings. The Ladies are in 1st after the three finals they competed in, while the Guys stand 2nd after four scored events. Celina's Runnin' Women go into Day 2 with 22 points, leading the 10 team field by a scant 2 points over perennial power Ottawa-Glandorf. The Boys trail defending champion OG by 18, with CHS earning 24 points.
The Girls got oustanding efforts in the high jump and discus. Freshman Aylssa Hoyng cleared a personal best 5'2" to WIN the HJ. Megan Imwalle was 5th at 4'8". On her final toss in the discus Autumn went from 4th to 2nd, with her throw of 109'3". The 4 x 800 relay of Ashtyn Phlipot, Maddy Weininger, Renee Robinson and LAuren McDonough took 5th, runninng 10:32.52.
The Boys were led by the WINNING long jump of senior Jack Hinders, who soared 20'6.5". Jack then joined Sam Phares in the pole vault. The duo finished in a three way tie for 3rd. In the shot put Adam Green finished 5th with a 'put' of 43'7.25". The quartet of Roman Mitchell, Jacob Gilstrap, Chad Downey, and Cole mertz crossed 4th in the 4 x 800 relay with a clocking of 8:32.52.
Running preliminarys were held for the three sprint relays, sprints, and hurdles. The top 6 in each event advanced to Friday's finals. CHS will be well represented as all relays qualified, 7 of 8 hurdlers advanced and 6 of 11 sprinters.
Fridays action will feature finals in the 5 remaining field events as well as all the running events except the 4 x 800 relay which was run as final on Thursday. Action begins at 4:30.
