MERCER COUNTY K of C Track and Field Meet
CELINA MEN AND WOMEN TAKE FIRST!
Friday evening, May 9 was the final day of the annual Mercer County K of C Track and Field Championships. All six Mercer County school districts took part in the competition at the Coldwater Track facility.
Friday's events picked up where they left off after Thursday's events. Half of the field event finals took place as well as running finals in all events, except the 4 x 800 relay which took place Thursday.
Heading to Friday, the Celina Men stood atop the standings with a 9 point margin over 2nd place St Henry. The Runnin' Women trailed Marion Local by 9 points. On Friday the Dogs came out 'barkin'. Excellent field event efforts were a precurser to excellent runs. By the end of the night's festivities Celina's Runnin' Bulldogs captured 'Team' titles in both the Boys and Girls competitions. The Guys tallied 220 points, to outdistance runner-up Coldwater by 77 points. The Host team was 2nd with 143, followed by St Henry (105), Marion Local (29), Parkway (24), and Fort Recovery (0). The Gals overcame Marion Local's early lead to win with 188 points. ML ended with 140, with Coldwater (107), St Henry (69), Fort Recovery (11), and Parkway (6) roundng out the field.
Depth was definitely a key as CHS scored with mutiple athletes in almost every event. The Boys had a least two scorers in every individual event, with three scorers in 8 of those events. The Ladies two scorers in 5 events with three scorers in 6 events.
CHS won all four Boys relays, as well as three Girls relays. Individual wins came from four different Dogs. Bekah Carr took first in the pole vault, 100 hurdles, and 300 hurdles, to go with a 3rd in the LJ. She broke the Mercer County Meet PV record with her 11'6" clearance. She also ran a personal best in the 300 hurdles. Stefan Chittum took first on the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. He also had a 2nd in the HJ and 3rd in the LJ. His winning 300 hurdle time was a career best. Autumn Brehm WON the shot put, to go with her runner-up discus effort. Garrett Winget was the fastest boy 400 runner.
Fifteen times Celina picked up 2nd place points. Runner-up placings came from Chad Temple (100, 200), Cole Mertz (800), Jack Hinders (LJ), Stefan (HJ), Sam Phares (PV), Adam Green (SP), Cole Stephens (300H), Jacob Rasawehr (D), Autumn (D), Holli Brackman (100), Kendra Fennig (200), Alyssa Hoyng (HJ), Emily Jackson (300H), and Mahaley Durbin (SP).
