State Swimming Prelims...Tyus Temple and Girls 200 free relay advance!

State Swimming Championship Preliminary!
Thursday, Feb 20 nine Celina Waterdogs took part in the OHSAA Division II State Swimming Championship Meet, held in Canton. Thursday's activity was preliminary swims in all swimming events. The fastest 16 of the 24 entrants in each event would earn spots in Friday's Championship Finals. The fastest 8 would swim in the 'A' Final, splashing for State Titles, while the second 8, in the 'B' Final going for 'team' points.
Celina was represented in three individual events as well as three relays. Senior Michaela Wenning took part in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races. She just missed out on making it to Friday as she placed 17th in the 50 (24.60) and 18th in the 100 (54.28). Tyus Temple, in his specialty, the 100 fly, broke his own 'School Record' on his way to a 'B' Final qualification swim of 52.22. The Mark knocked .04 off his old mark, and earned him 10th overall. Tyus will hit the pool Friday evening as he swims for 'team' points. The Girls 200 freestyle relay of Megan Muhlenkamp, Maddy Weininger, Cami Dzendzel, and Michaela will get to swim Friday, as the foursome had the 11th best time of the 24 relays. The time of 1:40.00 is .27 shy of the Celina 'School Record'. They will get their shot at it on Friday. The two Boys relays did not fair as well. Tyus, Ryan Miller, Mason Baker, and Jared Fleagle were disqualified in their 200 free relay. The 200 medley relay of Jared, Garrett Weininger, Tyus, and Mason finished 21st with a clocking of 1:44.27.
Friday's Finals begin at 5:00 PM in Canton.
