Jay County Invitational!

Men WIN! Women 3rd!

Saturday, January 18 Celina's Waterdogs crossed the border into Indiana for participation in the Jay County Swimming/Diving Invitational.  Ten schools took to the water, competing tor the team championships.  Waterdog Coach Matt May used the meet as a final tune-up for the coming Western Buckeye League Championship Meet, scheduled for January 23 and 25 in Defiance.

The Waterdog Men continued their WINNING ways and unbeaten season as they took the top spot in the 'team' standings.  CHS earned 455 points, clipping East Central by 28 points. EC totaled 427, with the host Jay County finishing 3rd with 371.  Depth was again the key as the Waterdogs won only 2 events, the 200 medley relay (J. Fleagle, G. Weininger, T. Temple, M. Baker)and 200 free relay (J. Fleagle, R. Miller, M. Baker, T. Temple).  Individually the Dogs were led by Tyus Temple and Jared Fleagle.  Tyus was 2nd in the 100 fly and 3rd for 100 back.  Jared took 2nd at 100 free and 3rd for 50 free.  A trio of breastrokers placed 3-4-5 as Derrick Spitler, Matthew Moege, and Ian Darras finished in that order.  Jake Browder was the 4th best diver, with Ryan Miller picking up 5th place points for 50 free and 500 free.  Mason Baker was 5th at 100 free.  R. Miller, D. Spitler, G. Weininger, H. Kreigel teamed for 5th in the 400 free relay.

Celina's Swimmin' Women (371 points) finished 3rd in the standings, behind winner Jay County (589) and Bellmont (376). 'Top Dogs' for the Gals were Sawyer Weitzel, Olivia Schlotterer, Michaela Wenning and Megan Muhlenkamp.  In the diving competition, Sawyer picked up Celina's only individual win for the meet.  Olivia took 2nd.  Michaela touched 2nd for 100 back, while Megan did likewise at 100 breast.  The 200 free relay consisting of M. Muhlenkamp, M. Weininger, C. Dzendzel, and M. Wenning captured the championship for the event.  The other two relays (200 medley and 400 free), made up of the same four girls, produced runner-up efforts.  Celina's other top five finishers were Maddy Weininger (4th, 50 free), Cami Dzendzel (4th, 100 free), Alli Darras (5th, 100 back), and the 'B' medley relay of A. Darras, J. Coon, P.Sutter, and K. Hoenie.

COMPLETE RESULTS from Jay County may be found in the 'Document' section.
