Celina Men WIN!
Saturday, January 11, Celina's Waterdogs, in conjunction with the Wapakoneta swim team and the Auglaize/Mercer County YMCA, hosted the annual Celina/Wapakoneta Swimming Invitational. The meet, featuring 18 teams for each gender of competition, alternates sites yearly, between the two host schools. For 2014, the host school was Celina.
For 2014, the host Celina Waterdogs did their part in putting on a show for spectators, coaches, and athletes. With many top flight swimmers competing in the meet, Celina held its own, to the point of WINNING the Men's 'Team Title' and finishing 3rd in the Women's standings. Celina's Men totaled 353 points, 66 more than runner-up Shawnee's 287. Wapakoneta was 3rd (282.5), Ottawa-Glandorf 4th (256), and Van Wert 5th (221.5). All five are from the Western Buckeye League. The Celina Gals 229 points was good for the third highest total, behind OG's winning 362 and Wapak's 265. Shawnee was 4th with 194, Minster 5th with 171.
Individually Celina was led by a bevy of veterans. All of the Waterdog top-5 individual placings came from juniors or seniors. Tyus Temple was a DOUBLE WINNER, taking first in the 200 yard indivdual medley and the 100 fly. Jared Fleagle earned a 3rd in the 50 free and 4th for 500 free. Hagan Kriegel touched 5th in both the 200 free and 500 free. Michaela Wenning WON the 100 rfee and snagged 2nd for 100 back, while Megan Muhlenkamp had a 3rd at 100 free and 5th at the 50 yard freestyle distance. The Waterdogs WON two relays. The quartet of Jared, Matt Moege, Tyus, and Mason Baker took the 200 medley relay, with Megan, Maddy Weininger, Cami Dzendzel, and Michaela taking the top spot for the 200 free relay. Earning 2nd place relay points was the foursome of Mason, Ryan Miller, Jared, and Tyus. Grant Guggenbiller, Garrett Weininger, Ryan, and Hagan closed you the Boys winning team effort with a 5th place for the 400 free relay.
