Nine Runnin' Bulldogs compete in Michigan.

Nine Celina CC athletes spent their Friday evening and Saturday afternoon across the northern border, in Michigan, October 4-5. The Runnin' Bulldogs took part in the Portage CC Invitational, hosted by the two Portage, MI high schools. Over 160 high schools and 76 middle schools from 4 states took part in the 17 race event, featuring the best teams from Michigan, along with teams from Illinois, Indiana, 3 from Ohio, one of which was Celina.
The Green and White Bulldogs were represented by 6 boys and 3 girls. Nicole Bowsher, Renee Robinson, and Kendra Fennig competed in the Divison II varsity race for girls. Forty-three schools were represented in the field. On a cloudy, slightly breezy,, humid day the three Runnin' Women ran well on the challenging, yet fair 5000m course. Nicole ran a career fastest 21:34 as she placed 135th of the 279 finishers. She knocked :25 off her previous best. Renee followed suit as she lowered her personal time by :18. She crossed in 21:41, good for 145th. Kendra ran her second best time of the season, finishing 175th, in 22:16. With only 3 girls taking part, Celina was not included in the 'team' scoring.
The Celina Boys competed with 6 runners, enabling them to score as a 'team'. With 4 of the 6 crossing the line with career fastest marks, the Guys placed 17th of the 41 scored teams. Cole Mertz continued his excellent season as he placed 10th of the 283 finishers. Cole covered the distance in his personal record 16:18, a :07 improvement on his previous best. Drew Donovan was 69th recording his fastest ever time of 17:17. Roman Mitchell dropped his career best by:14 as he broke the 18:00 barrier, in 17:47 which earned him 105th. Chad Downey was 142nd, traversing the course in a career best 18:10, knocking :17 off his previous record. Michael Cron completed Celina's scoring five with a 176th place in 18:33. Jacob Gilstrap finished 195th in 18:51.
Next up...for all the Bulldogs, the Western Buckeye League Championship Meet, on Oclobber 12. St Marys will host the event, which begins at 10:00.
