Runnin' Bulldogs at the Cedarville Invitational
Saturday morning, September 21, Celina's Runnin' Bulldogs took part in the Annual Friendship Invitational, hosted by the Cedarville University. A damp, heavy 5000m course greeted the 23 participating high schools. The day began with college races, followed by the high schoolers.
Celina's Men took the course in the first H S race. Three hundred fourteen guys took part and completed the race. The Runnin' Bulldogs were represented by 13 harriers, led by Cole Mertz, who crossed the line in 4th place. He teamed with Drew Donovan (35), Roman Mitchell (37), Jacob Gilstrap (57), and Chad Downey (59) for the 5 scoring Dogs. The quintet amassed 176 points, which was good for 7th place in the 'team' results. Nick Marks ran a career best as he was CHS's 6th finisher, 65th overall. John Hoenie and Nathan Higgins ran season best times.
For the Ladies, Lauren McDonough, in her first race of the season coming off an injury, led the Runnin' Women to a sixth place 'team' result. Lauren placed 23rd of the 181 competitors. She joined Renee Robinson (27), Jenna Coon (36), Nicole Bowsher (40), and Beth Garwood (47) to total 163 points.
