STATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP!

'DAY 1' RECAP!

Six Celina Waterdogs participated in the first day of swimming at the Division II State Championship Meet on Thursday, Feb 21.  Four divers took part in their events on Wednesday, with Collen Byer placing 8th, Olivia Schlotterer 14th, Samantha Ringo 18th and Chandler Kimmel 24th.  In the swimming preliminary races on Thursday, athletes were looking to record a top 16 time in order to return for Friday's 'Finals'.  The top 8 times would swim in the 'A' final, with the next 8 times in the 'B' final.  All 16 qualifiers would score 'team' points, provided there are no disqualifications.  Celina was represented in 4 events for the prelims.  First up was the quartet of Paige Dorsten, Kandace Eichenauer, Michaela Wenning, and Brooke Mertz in the 200 medley relay.  The Ladies swam 1:54.90 which was good for 20th place.  Next up was Michaela in the 50 free.  Micky touched the pad in 24.67 which was good for 16th place and the final qualifying time to Friday's 'B' final.  She will be looking to move up in the standings as the Finals begin at 5:00 Friday evening.  Tyus Temple swam in the Guys 100 fly, clocking 53.52 which placed him 17th, just one spot from the 'B' final.  Wrapping up Celina's day was the Girls 200 free relay of Michaela, Paige, Megan Muhlenkamp, and Brooke.  They swam 1:41.47 for the 200 yards, good for the 18th fastest time.
