Celina Runnin' Bulldogs at Portage Inv.

Celina at the Portage, MI Invitational

Saturday, October 6 seven Celina Harriers took part in the Portage, MI Invitational.  The event, hosting more than 160 schools, is the largest meet in the State of Michigan with most of the top rated schools in Michigan taking part.  Five Celina Guys and two Gals competed in the 36 school, Division II, races.  Cool, blustery, misty conditions greeted the runners on the 5000m course.  For their efforts, the Bulldogs were rewarded with five personal best times, with a sixth being a season best.  Cole Mertz was Celina's highest finisher had ne placed 27th of the 251 finishers in a career best tieing 16:25.  Drew Donovan lowered his personal best by :29 as he placed 95th in 17:21.  Brandon Downey and Jacob Gilstrap each chopped :25 from their previous fastest times as they placed 134th and 146th respectively in 17:48 and 17:56.  Zach Mitchell was just off his best (by :04), crossing in 18:24, for 191st place.  Jenna Coon ran a season best 20:16 in placing 69th of the 230 girls.  Katlin Robinson tied her career best with a 20:55, in 102nd place.  The meet served as a final preparation for the upcoming Western Buckeye League Championship meet which will be competed, Saturday, October 13 in Ottawa.
