Runnin' Bulldogs at the Mason Invitational!
Saturday, September 8 the Runnin' Bulldogs traveled through steady rain on their way to Mason for the annual Mason CC Inv. By arrival in Mason the rain was about to end, but the overnight deluge took its toll on the Corwin Nixon Park course. The creeks were flowing high, so high that part of the course had to be rerouted due to some flooding, adding some distance to the 5000m layout. The conditions did not stop the, close to 3000, harriers as they splashed through the 18" water in one creek, slopped, slid, and traversed the competitive distance.
Celina's Runnin' Bulldogs were hoping for some season and career best runs heading into the meet, but with conditions as they were had to settle for competitive satisfaction. The Girls took the course first. Jenna Coon headed the Bulldog charge with her best effort of the season, finishing 7th of the 149 finishers. Katlin Robinson was next for CHS with a 21st place. The Bulldogs 3-4-5 runners finished in order at 75, 76, 77th. Audriana Adams, Renee Robinson, and Beth Garwood took those spots and completed the Gals 10th place 'team' result. Bellbrook won the championship with 73 points. Celina amassed 234.
The Bulldog Boys Varsity 9 followed as the course deteriorated race by race. Cole Mertz once again led the way with an 8th place finish of 195 competitors. Drew Donovan and Jacob Gilstrap were next at 53rd and 55th respectively. Brandon Downey in 68th and Zach Mitchell, coming off a toe injury, who was in 70th completed the scoring five. Like the Girls, Bellbrook won the Boys title. CHS totaled 226 for its 8th place finish.
John Hoenie, one of four Guys in the 9-10 grade open race ran a career best time, placing 100th of the 355 finishers.
Next up...at the Cedarville University Inv. on September 15.
