Home » Cross Country NewsBoth the Men and Women Runnin' Bulldogs place 7th at Granville Inv.September 2, 2012 By Daniel Otten of Celina High SchoolGRANVILLE INV... Bulldogs place 7th of 17 for both Men and Women. Saturday, September 1 Celina's Runnin' Bulldogs traveled east of Columbus for participation in the Granville Inv. Seventeen schools endured lightning delays, heavy rain during the boys race, and humid conditions to produce excellent results on the slippery hilly course. The boys open race was scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM, but was canceled due to lightning in the area. Competitors in the open race joined the varsity race contingent for a 9:30 AM start. The combination of races, with close to 300 runners, created finish line congestion as the racers finished fast and furiously. Many athletes placing 120th and beyond could not make it to the finish line, having to stop just short because of the crowd. Times and places for 120 and beyond are estimates. During the boys race torrential rain pelted the runners. However, the rain didn't seem to affect efforts as many athletes, including the Celina Harriers, recorded personal/seasonal best times. For the CHS Men six career fastest runs were produced, to do with five seasonal best. The Boys team took 7th in the 17 team field. Cole Mertz again set the pace for the Bulldogs, crossing in 6th of the 293 finishers. Drew Donovan ran a career fastest time in placing 28th. Like Drew, Brandon Downey ran a career best in placing 58. Jacob Gilstrap was 60th, followed by Aaron Crites in 99th. The girls escaped the rain, but not the humidity, and also got a sloppy course created during the boys race. Like Celina's Guys, the Gals finished 7th of 17 as a team. Three CHS Women improved on their personal best times. Jenna Coon was 'Top Dog', taking 21st of the 229 competitors. Katlin Robinson collected points for 33rd place. Beth Garwood and Audriana Adams ran career bests as they finished 78th and 88th respectively. Renee robinson rounded out the scoring 5, taking 89th.
