Dogs off to successful start in District Competition!

Wednesday afternoon/evening the Celina Runnin' Dogs opened competition at the Division I Tiffin District. Competitors in the District are looking to qualify for next week's Regional Meet by finishing in the top four of their respective events. All running events held Wednesday, with the exception of the 4 x 800 relay which was run as a final, were preliminary races. Field event finals on Wednesday included the boys pole vault, long jump, and shot put. The girls had finals in the high jump and discus.
Celina's Runnin' Dogs had an excellent start in District. Every Celina runner who took part in the running prelims advanced to Friday's finals. Lexi Mills moves on in the 100IH and 300LH. Caleb Fickert earned the 400m final. Hannah Fleck and Mitch Williams both made it to the 800m final. The day ended with the Celina Ladies 4 x 400 relay qualification. Lexi ran 16.83 for the 100IH and 47.87 for the 300LH. Caleb qualified first in the 400m with a 52.08. Hannah jogged to a 2:37.52 800m qualifying run, while Mitch went after the Celina school record in his prelim. Mitch ran alone in his heat covering the 800m in a NEW CELINA SCHOOL RECORD time of 1:57.73. He eclipsed the old mark set in 1983 by Glenn Gebele of 1:58.4. The quartet of Lexi, Kelsey Waterman, Cayla Hellwarth, and Hannah easily moved on in the 4 x 400 relay (4:08.80). All will run in the finals on Friday looking to advance to the Amherst Regional (girls) or the Pickerington North Regional (boys).
In the field event finals Celina faired well as three Bulldogs earned spots in Regionals, five scored points by being in the top eight, and one broke his own school record. In the girls high jump Lizz Carr tied for third (4' 10", 5' 0" in the jump off) to earn a spot in Amherst. in boys action Todd Hertel and Tom Burden had super days as they placed second and third respectively in the pole vault, putting them in the Pickerington Regional. Todd cleared 14' 3" to establish a NEW 'SCHOOL RECORD', breaking his own mark of 13' 7" set earlier this season. Tom went over the 13' 6" mark to tie a personal best. In the shot put Jacob Archer (47' 2.5") took fifth, just missing a spot in next week's action, while Joe Granger 'put' the shot 46' 1.75" to place seventh. Also taking part Wednesday was Lindsey Watercutter who finished 12th in the discus with a toss of 95' 0" |
