Excellent Day for Celina Men at WBL Championships!

It was a great day to be a Celina Bulldog Trackster at the 55th Western Buckeye League Men's Track & Field Championship Meet on Friday. St Marys played host to the 1-day meet (changed form the 2-day format due to weather). The Men's competition was a battle of Bulldogs as last year's top two teams of Bulldogs (Defiance and Celina) were at it again in 2009. In the end the Defiance Dogs edged the Celina Dogs for the WBL Championship. The two squads dominated the 10-team field as Defiance totaled 132 points, to Celina's 117. Third place Van Wert was 61 behind CHS. Although the CHS Bulldogs did not win the team title, the entire crew put forth a valiant effort. Highlights abounded for Dogs, beginning with the 'School Record' performance of Blake Moran  in WINNING the 110HH, the season best 'put' of Jacob Archer  in WINNING the shot put and the pair of WINS from the feet of Andrew Goodwin  in the 1600 and 3200 runs. Blake bettered the previous school mark of Rick Ross (14.60 in 1984) by scooting over the 10 hurdles in 14.48. Jacob 'put' the shot 52' 5.25", more than 4 feet beyond the runner-up's performance. Andrew continued his excellent running, crossing the tape first a couple of times as he defeated his very tough Defiance nemesis. Andrew ran 4:25.08 and 9:50.42 for the 1600 and 3200 distances respectively. Complimenting the four winning feats were the five runner-up finishes of Blake in the LJ and 300 hurdles, Mitch Williams in the 800, Aaron Snyder in the discus, and the 4 x 800 relay. Earning third place points were Tom Burden in the PV, Caleb Fickert in the 400, Mitch in the 1600.
Next up for the Dogs - District competiton at Tiffin on Wednesday, May 20 and Friday, May 22.
