Wildcats pick up first win on the season

Cassville, MO (September 17, 2012) – The Cassville Wildcats freshman football team took on a nonconference foe Monday night as they battled Buffalo Bison freshman in their third contest of the season.  Last week the freshman ‘Cats were thumped by a tough Lamar team as they suffered a devastating 44-7 loss.  The Cassville freshman their mental toughness bouncing back with a 30 – 16 win over the Buffalo Bison

The Wildcats look impressive early as the offense marched down the field sparked by a 35 yard pass and catch from quarterback Lee Cox and wide receiver Noah Hadlow.  Fullback Kane Keller punched a three yard touchdown to run to finish the drive and put Cassville up 6 – 0.  After an impressive defensive series the Wildcats quickly regained possession of the ball struck quickly on another long pass from Cox to Hadlow to put the ‘Cats up 12 – 0 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter began with the freshman Wildcat defensive forcing another Buffalo punt.  The Cassville freshman quickly picked up where they left off in the first quarter by another explosive 40 yard run by Kellner for another Wildcat score increasing the lead to  18 – 0.  Buffalo, who had frustrated early by the stiff Cassville defensive, finally broke free and scored on a long run to keep the game competitive at 18-6.  The freshman ‘Cats offensive continued to roll as they launched a methodical drive just before the half to punch in another touchdown run by Madison to take 24 – 6 lead into the half.

To open the second half, the defense continued to play tough and aggressive forcing a quick 3 and out.  The Freshman Wildcats would punch in one more touchdown by the end of the third quarter thanks to a quarterback sneak by Cox expanding the lead to 30 – 6.  Buffalo would not give up in the fourth as they marched down the field for another score to keep them within two scores at 30 – 14.  That was as close as they Bison would get as the Wildcat offense picked up some crucial first downs in the fourth to run out the clock and finish the game with a 30 – 14 win

Coach Danny Powers summed the Wildcat win by stating, “I was incredibly proud of our kids tonight.  They showed a lot of character coming out and playing well this week.”  Coach Artherton added, “Our defensive looked tough all night.  If we can limit our big plays, we will be a tough defensive for anybody we play to contend with.”  The Cassville freshman improved their record to 1-2 on the season, and the will play Carl Junction next week at Carl Junction, beginning at 5:30 PM.
