"Inch by Inch"
April 17, 2012By Dave Edwards of J.I. Case Wrestling
Wrestling, like life, is a sport of inches. The wrestlers on this team are determined to fight to reach their lofty goals. Everyday we encounter a struggle within ourselves to perform at our best. Whether it’s in school, at practice, or at home, we must work hard on the little things.
“A thousand mile journey begins with a single step.” We are on an honorable and groundbreaking journey this year, but in order to reach our goals, we must focus on each step.
The little things that will make us better include excelling in school, drilling intensely, doing extra repetitions after practice, conditioning beyond your comfort zone, lifting ferociously, and much, much more. Everything counts. Every inch will make the difference.
You must be willing to fight your way onto that victory stand. To climb up, one inch at a time.
The inches we need are everywhere around us. They’re in how we practice, how we nourish ourselves, and how we perform. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team, we must be willing to make sacrifices for that inch.
Wrestling is not easy. Winning is not easy. We must be ready and willing to claw with our fingernails for that inch because we know that when we add up all those inches that’s going to make the difference between winning and losing.
