Boys Swimming and Diving Team fall to Greencastle
January 13, 2013Cascade High School
The Cadet boys swimming and diving team has battled all season against teams that have twice as many swimmers. Wednesday nights meet with the Greencastle Tiger Cubs was no different. Coach Williams stated that he thought a lineup change was needed to help keep the boys fresh and to give them a different feel for the meet. “ These guys have been locked into their events all season. We go to every meet and try to win it. Tonight we knew that Greencastle was just too big and strong of a team to compete the normal way so we gave the guys some options”.
The options seemed to work as Cole Dugan gave up his 100 breastroke event and swam the 100 butterfly. He posted his fastest time ever in the event and put his time right there with Alex VanWinkle’s time. Alex has been the team’s butterflyer this season. Jesse Gilmore opted out of the 200 free for the 100 breaststroke and finished second in the event. Alex Van Winkle opted out of the 100 butterfly and went to the 100 backstroke and won the event. Diver Kyle Trent backed up his WCC Championship performance with a dominating win in the Diving event and freshman swimmer Houston Fox posted two personal best times in the 100 free and the 50 free.
The score will show that Greencastle won the meet 115-64 but for the guys of the Cascade swimming and diving team the night was more about preparing for the last stretch of the season. Coach Williams praised his swimmers hard work after the meet. " These nine swimmers and one diver work their butts off every day to improve. We know we are not going to win every meet but they have pride in their sport and in each other and they fight for respect at every meet. They are the definition of determination".
The guys are back in the water on Tuesday the 15th at home when they host the South Putnam Eagles.
