The boys swim and dive team competed at the West Central Conference meet on Saturday. Senior diver Kyle Trent posted the teams only conference win, however that is not an indication of how well the team of nine swimmers performed. Senior Jesse Gilmore and Freshman Griffin Crum went finished 2nd and 3rd in the 200 freestyle event and finished 2nd and 4th in 500 freestyle event. Sophomore Alex Van winkle posted a pair of second place finishes in the200 IM and the 100 butterfly. Junior Cole Dugan fished 4th in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 breaststroke. Coach Williams was delighted with the performance of his team. “These guys had competed all year long with 9 swimmers and 1 diver. They have a record of 4 wins and 2 loses so far this season. They swim hard in practice every day and swim with passion in every event they swim in. Today we put some great swims in place and our guys dropped substantial time in their events”.
Senior Swimmer Jesse Gilmore set a new school record in the 200 freestyle bettering the 2006 record time of 1:56.59. Jesse added his name to the record board with a 1:55.63. The boys finished fourth in the meet but Coach Williams said that he would not change anything when it comes to his team. “I would take these nine swimmers and 1 diver into any meet . They simple refuse to give up. It is a special privilege to watch them compete”.
The guys are back in the water on Wednesday when they travel to Greencastle for a dual meet with the tiger cubs.
