Lady Cadets Golf in County Meet

August 5, 2012
By David Smyth of Cascade High School

To say the girls “weathered” the day would be an understatement.  Sun, rain, two thunder related stoppages, and high humidity along with dealing with changing course conditions proved to make for a long day.  The Hendricks County Tournament capped a long week for the Cadets as it was their 4th 18-hole match in six days.   With school starting on Monday, the Cadets will switch gears and get a little more practice time while focusing on 9-hole dual matches.

The team finished fourth in the tourney.  Scoring for the Cadets were Shelby Baldwin with a 128, Sage Archer ~ 119, and Maureen Flanigan ~ 116.  This was the first time most of our golfers had seen this golf course and the unique challenges that it brings.  We will be better prepared when we play North Putnam there and also Twin Bridges is our Sectional site.

Jessica Smyth shot an 82 which earned her Medalist honors for 2012.  After coming close in prior years (2nd/2010, 3rd/2011), she claimed the 1st place medal this year.  Cascade competed in the first wave, so when Jessica was complete, she had to agonizingly wait until the second wave was complete to get the final results.   Congratulations to Jessica!
