The Girls’ Golf team started its season by playing in the Plainfield Invitational on Monday. The match was originally scheduled for Oak Tree, but Moved to Deer Creek due to a scheduling conflict. Early in the season, Oak Tree would have been preferred, but the girls did just fine on the more challenging golf course and finished ninth. The field was full of bigger schools and tough competition, including Zionsville who is rated #6 in the state. Jessica Smyth led the way with a tournament best 76. Despite not getting the putter warmed up, she was very solid all day and came away with Medalist honors. The round could have been much lower has Jessica got some birdie putts to drop and made some other short ones later in the round. Her consistency gave her many birdie tries and next time some of those will fall. All in all, a very good start to the season for Jessica. Next for Cascade was freshman Maureen Flanigan. In her first high school tournament, Maureen shot a 112. That was a very nice score and she will only get better as the season progresses. Closely behind Maureen was Shelby Baldwin with a 113. Shelby had a nice day going but her score doesn’t reflect that because of 2 holes on the back nine. Shelby will score much better as the season goes as she is noticeably improved from last season. Rounding out the scoring for the Cadets was Autumn Holden with a 155. Autumn just started golf two days ago and for her to finish the round was an accomplishment let alone her score allowed us to beat Westfield. (Due to various reasons, the Cadets only had 4 golfers for the opening match, meaning everyone’s score would count (Normally top 4 of 5)). Complete team results: Zionsville 326 Cascade Scores:
