Sectional Prelims a Success for Cadets
February 3, 2012Cascade High School
The Cascade Cadet Girls Swim & Dive team competed in the Sectional prelims at Plainfield on Thursday. When they packed up to come home they had put three relays in the top eight, had four ladies in the top 16 who advance to saturdays session and set a new school record. “not bad for a nights work”. explained coach Williams. “The things these girls accomplish just keeps amazing me”. Tori Breeding qualified in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Meghan Lewis qualified in the 100 backstroke, Hayley Rosales qualified in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly and Regina qualified in the 100 free and made the final heat in the freestyle.
Coach Williams let his advancing swimmers know that it is all about getting to the finals. “This is a very demanding sectional. Several State Champions will come out of this group of schools. Tonight was a great night for our swimmers. Regina has an opportunity in the final heat to really come out of nowhere and stun them. Tonight wasn’t her best swim and in a final where first to eighth is determined by a margin of around one second, she just needs to do all the little things and everything else takes care of itself. The girls have worked all season to get to this meet and getting to Saturday’s session is a great accomplishment".
The night ended on a great note with the 400 Freestyle relay team of Tori Breeding, Hayley Rosales, Regina Solik and Justine Weatherman breaking the School Record, posting a new record time of 4:06.19 Coach Williams stated that this was a magical accomplishment. “ I am happy for all the girls in the relay, but I am overjoyed for Justine. She has been the “rock” of this team for three years and for her to be able to end her high school swimming career with a school record was just awesome”.
