Coaches' notes on Fuquay and Southeast
April 17, 2009 By Laura Kerrigan of Cary High School
Back from Spring Break for our game against Fuquay-Varina on Tuesday, and we started out a bit slow. We gave up a goal in the first half and couldn't quite get it back. We did have a stronger second half, but failed to convert on a couple of opportunities late. Finally, we abandoned safety in the hope of getting extra numbers up front in the final few minutes, giving up a late goal as a result. We moved on to Southeast Raleigh on Thursday. We played much better. Channing Dyson won several balls for us in the air and our flank players were successful in gaining several good scoring opportunities for us through play, free kicks and corner kicks. Holly McKay, CC Risk, Erin Beasley, Kristin Nagy, Hope Pittard and Becky Denardis all were able to create some chances for us. Unfortunately, we did not convert those opportunities into goals, however. Our defense held strong though with Emma Anderson, Victoria Coranado, Laurie Anderson, and Kelly Glendenning playing solid for us. Annie McHenry had another fine effort for us in the goal, posting a shutout and we tied 0-0. We played good soccer and moved the ball around fairly well. We'll continue to focus on finishing in training to get ready for our conference matches with Athens Drive and Middle Creek next week, as well as non-conference foe Wakefield. |
