Apex's red-hot shooting propels team past Cary

CARY — Ultimately, basketball boils down to which team makes the most baskets. It’s fairly simple really. And Friday night at Cary High School, Apex simply out-shot the Imps en route to a 75-57 victory over its chief rival. “Our shooting was the best I’ve ever seen it,” Cougars coach David Neal said. “This year on the road we’ve had atrocious shooting in the first half. So for us to come out and shoot 9-for-13 from the 3-point line in the first half was big. That put us in good position to win and we were able to hold them off the rest of the game.” Point guard Connor Belicic came out of the gate red hot, knocking down his first five attempts from behind the arc to help give Apex a 22-12 after the first quarter.
